Devon Rodriguez shares his artistic journey with the High School of Art & Design

I went back to the High School of Art & Design to share my experiences to hopefully inspire the students. I’ll never forget how inspired I felt everyday when I attended that school. I was mainly inspired by my painting class with James Harrington. Also, walking around the streets of Midtown was very different from the streets of the South Bronx. Everyday I felt a sense hope. Hope that I wasn’t stuck where I was raised and that one day I’ll become a successful artist. I wanted to show them that a few years ago, I sat in their exact seat, in that exact classroom, with the same teacher. I showed them everything that worked for me over the last 10 years, and how I used TikTok and social media in general to catapult my talent. I hope they enjoyed it throughout all of my nervous pauses and stutters lol. After the talk, I sat down alongside them for life drawing and it brought back some beautiful memories.
