Testing the Gemtech Aurora II,Is It Worth It?

You bet your ass it’s worth it. Depends on your purpose/needs. 5 shot average netted 130.5db. Typical subsonic ammo through a Glock 19 is 158.xx. Fantastic reduction for something so tiny.

Glock 19 Gen 3 all factory except night sights. Lone Wolf 1/2x28 barrel.

Ammo used is Federal syntech 150gr FMJ subsonic. 80-90 durometer rubber 1/8” discs/wipes were made as replacements. Using a small centering hole about 1/16” diameter to make the bullet pass through with ease. Vaseline was used as packing material instead of white lithium grease. There’s less “smoke” or discharge when using vaseline.

Gemtech claims about a 24db reduction in sound. That’s great for its size. That sound reduction is also what I’ve got with supersonic 115/124gr ammo. Subsonics have proven to dip into the high 120’s and keep it low 130’s for about 10rds.

Maybe if I did a 15 shot string with subs it would be 24db reduction overall? IDK. I usually don’t shoot this often and it’s for emergency purposes only where 1-3 shots might be needed. Great little can for the money and has a bit of military nostalgia which draws me to it. Just wish I had the first generation model.
