In Brazil, on Tuesday, the country's Supreme Court ordered former president Jair Bolsonaro to begin serving a sentence of 27 years and three months for plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes ruled that the latest judgment is final with no appeals left.
Bolsonaro, aged 70, will continue to be held in a federal police jail in Brasília, where he has been detained since his home detention was terminated on Saturday after the former president was deemed a flight risk. He admitted to trying to remove his ankle monitor with a soldering iron.
Bolsonaro was found guilty in September of leading a conspiracy to keep him in power following his election loss. Justices also said he was aware of plans to target the winning candidate, President Lula, and incited the 8 January 2023 riots, which led to 1,500 arrests.
He is barred from holding office until 2060.
