The Indian government revoked his 'Overseas Citizenship of India' (OCI), alleging that Taseer had tried to hide information regarding his father, politician Salman Taseer's Pakistani background. Critics noted that the timing of this revocation, which came after Taseer published a controversial article in Time magazine labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India's 'Divider-in-Chief', appeared political.
