Influencer Paul Kim and his family are mourning the heartbreaking loss of his 5-year-old son, Micah Kim. The Catholic content creator shared that Micah died on New Year’s Eve after spending 11 difficult days in the hospital, following what began as a severe case of the flu just before Christmas.
In a video posted on Jan. 1, Paul said, “Micah went home to the house of Our Father,” adding that the experience has been the most painful chapter of his life. Paul and his wife, Maggie, are parents to six young children, and the family is leaning on faith as they grieve.
Micah first became ill on Dec. 21 and was rushed to the hospital. According to Paul, the flu escalated rapidly, turning septic and causing seizures. Doctors described it as one of the worst cases they had seen. Despite being placed on life support, Micah suffered catastrophic brain damage along with injuries to his kidneys and lungs.
Paul shared that, in many ways, the family was “fighting for time,” hoping and praying for a miracle. He also reflected on the painful realization that Micah may have already been gone before his heart stopped, explaining that the child was in a coma during his final days.
Even through deep sadness, Paul said he finds comfort believing Micah is now in heaven, “working miracles” and watching over his parents and siblings — Audrey, Aiden, Remy, John Paul, and little Joey. He admitted to crying constantly while also feeling moments of peace and gratitude for Micah’s life.
