Yoyo Flow. This is another one of those largely undiscussed topics within the Yoyo community. So I thought this would be the perfect topic for my next 'like a pro' series. So let's begin with a definition, what is flow?

From my understanding, flow is a term that is designed to describe tricks that are performed with an elegant fluency, each element leads seamlessly into the next. Some examples of players whom I think are awesome at flow are;

Charles Haycock
Takeshi Matsuura
Mike Monty
Daniel Kim

And countless others who don't immediately come into my memory. The way I see it is there are 3 important elements of flow.

1) Practice
This is the most important aspect, without practice, you won't get anywhere with flow. The more you practice the more your elements, the better they will transition and flow into each other. This is an absolute prerequisite for flow, but I'd argue that practice isn't sufficient on its own.

2) Trick Construction
Creating tricks that follow the 3 criteria:
a) Follow the same direction.
b) Change directions quickly and fluently.
c) Devoid of redundant or irrelevant elements.

3) Breaking flow
Flow is nice on its own and understanding what makes it happen allows you to break it strategically and create a very snappy element. Understanding flow, and what breaks it is also a critical component in harnessing the aesthetic nature of flow.

Hopefully, this video helps some of you out! I'm by no means an expert at flow, and flow is just one of the considerations I take into account when building tricks. However, this is what I know and I thought I'd share my thoughts in the hopes that it accelerates your learning journey.
