There are 4 main types of timers: Simplified Timers, Digital Timers, Mechanical Timers, and Smart Timers. Simplified Timers are made to be incredibly user-friendly, but this user-friendly setup has a drawback—the simplified nature of these timers makes for limited functionality. Digital Timers are full of functionality and are typically the best value for the average gardener; the drawback is that these timers will lack WiFi or Bluetooth functionality, and there is some learning curve to programming them. Mechanical Timers are the most affordable of the bunch, but this also means they have the most limited functionality–only 1 timer setting and it needs to be reset manually after each cycle. Smart Timers are the most capable and expensive of the bunch, but for those who see the value in remote and internet-enabled smart programming, they are worth the price.
