Background
In recent years, there has been an increasing global concern over the impact of human activities on the environment. One of the key areas of focus has been waste management and emission reduction. Mismanagement of waste can hasten global warming in several ways. The anaerobic degradation of solid waste in landfills produces methane, which directly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.

In order to respond to the global phenomenon of climate change and as a commitment to the earth, the Government of Indonesia is also moving forward by targeting a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the waste sector to achieve Zero Waste and Zero Emission. The Indonesian government has submitted the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution document on September 23 2022 which includes a target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the waste sector in 2030 by 40 Mton CO2eq in CM1 and 43.5 Mton CO2eq in CM2. The Government of Indonesia has set ambitious goals to achieve zero waste and zero emissions to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future for its citizens.

Zero waste is a concept that aims to promote sustainable production and consumption practices through the elimination, reduction, or beneficial reuse of waste. It involves addressing waste at every stage of the product lifecycle, including extraction of raw materials, production, consumption, and disposal. Zero emission, on the other hand, refers to the goal of minimizing or eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful pollutants. A key step towards achieving zero waste and zero emission goals is the development of a sustainable waste management strategy.

This strategy should be based on the principles of the circular economy, which aims to maximize resource efficiency and eliminate waste by promoting the reuse, recycling, and recovery of materials at every stage of the product lifecycle and the principle of “less waste to landfill” in order to reduce the amount of waste goes to landfill.

It is important for countries to develop a comprehensive and integrated roadmap. This roadmap should encompass strategies and initiatives that encourage waste reduction, recycling, resource recovery, and the adoption of clean technologies. This talk show will focus on Indonesia’s strategy for achieving zero waste and zero emission targets in the waste sector and address all the possible methods for sustainable waste management from a climate change perspective. This event will feature high-level panellists from the Indonesian government, the private sector, and other related stakeholders.

Objectives
● Encourage more awareness and understanding of the issues related to zero waste and zero emission.
● Increase regional, national, and global collaboration on the issue of sustainable waste management.
● Promoting the issue of Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions resulting from the Management of Hazardous Waste and Non-Hazardous Waste by encouraging the implementation of the Circular Economy and Sustainability Industry concepts;
● To advocate for and support SDG 13 as well as the NDC target by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from the waste sector with well-managed and sustainable waste management practices.
● Showing the latest developments on control efforts for climate change that have been and are being carried out by the parties.
