In fertility treatment, especially IVF–ICSI, some patients have severely poor sperm quality.
This is identified by a test called DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI).

When DFI levels are 40%, 50%, 60% or higher, using sperm from the ejaculate often results in:
• Poor embryo formation
• Low-quality embryos
• Repeated IVF failures

To overcome this problem, we use a scientifically proven technique called Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE).

Studies show that sperm taken directly from the testis usually has significantly lower DNA fragmentation compared to ejaculate sperm.
As a result, embryos formed from testicular sperm often have better quality.

During TESE:
• Testicular tissue is carefully extracted
• Embryologists analyze the tissue and isolate sperm from seminiferous tubules
• Sperm are examined under a high-power microscope
• Only the best-quality sperm are selected for ICSI

Remember:
If sperm count or sperm quality is very poor, using only ejaculate sperm during IVF may not be the right choice.
In many cases, testicular sperm extraction can significantly improve embryo quality and IVF outcomes.
