Here is the first video of the Grand Challenge 2026 II, at least on my channel. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the shiny Koraidon (playing Scarlet, I would not be able to get Miraidon anyway) because of the decision to limit the number of codes given out at GameStop locations in North America. Even with a second wave, they limited it to a small amount (50 of them where I tried). It’s kind of baffling because in the other regions, unlimited numbers were given out, meaning this was a decision on the North American end to limit the number of available ones.

Especially since it began on the same day as the Mega Evolution TCG set, meaning scalpers were already in line at GameStop before they even opened and acquired them. As most scalpers would have no use for the code card, they just snatched them up and scalped them too. And people bought them, indicating they ought to go get more. Overall, it felt like an incredible failure of the event on the North American side, that someone didn’t understand what people would do and didn’t want to hear any bad news about it. (As for the very low numbers, I’m guessing they got it from the idea of previous in-person GameStop promotions, like that random Lechonk in 2023, and figured the demand would be similar.)

I came back late on Saturday, and not wanting to accidentally miss the remaining hours of it on Sunday, I played this pretty late into Saturday night, so I had a rough time at it. Not sure if all of the Grand Challenges going forward will be like this though.

I also remember when Heracross was new, it was considered very strong, on par with Scizor among Bug-types, and heads and shoulders better than any Bug-type available in Generation I. Megahorn, in particular, was considered overwhelming on a Pokémon with an Attack as high as Heracross, and it was seen as an example of Bug becoming a legitimate type. Well, Scizor has continued to hold up, but Heracross has fallen far by the wayside that not even a Mega Evolution was able to help it. (Among Pokémon with its type combination, we’ve also since got Pheromosa and Buzzwole, though neither are available in Scarlet and Violet.)

Perhaps Terastallizing Hippowdon was pointless, as the outcome of the match wouldn’t have changed either way, but I wanted to make certain that Hippowdon would not be hit with a super-effective Ice-type attack from Baxcalibut. Well…it didn’t happen, so there’s at least that.

There is a fixed Rockruff spawn to the east of Porto Marinada, near Colonnade Hollow, of Rockruff with Own Tempo. This Rockruff will always evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc, but it must be done in the evening. It will not evolve into Midday or Midnight Form Lycanroc.
