Can We Find FREEDOM Here? Sailing in MAINE's Remote Islands [Ep. 5]

Описание к видео Can We Find FREEDOM Here? Sailing in MAINE's Remote Islands [Ep. 5]

We cruise further "down east" of Maine.

We start off this video as we sail through the fog in Maine’s Bass Straight. It is a tight channel with lots of current. We raced another 50 foot for hours and beat them through by a few hundred feet.

We stopped and stayed the night on a mooring ball at the Hinckley Yacht Yard. It was a very welcoming place. The people there were great. It was almost like walking into history as it is home of the iconic Hinckley Southwester. There is no longer yacht production at this facility, but they still do maintenance and refits.

This was the week of Melges 24 friends. Kate and I used to race these boats before we got the larger J Boat for cruising. We had some friends from Michigan take us for an amazing climb up the precipice trail in Acadia Bational Park on Mt Desert Island.

Later our friends from Ohio drove out to join us for a sail down east. Our new Rocna anchor arrived at Hinckley and Nate helped us install it. After that we left the dock and went sailing into the cold and Rainey ford of Maine.

We see lobster boats, snag a few pots, sail down the only fjord on the east coast, and visit the mile-long sandy beach of Roque Island. Before we set off, our friends Nate and Diane, help us install our new Rocna anchor at Hinkley Yachts in Southwest Harbor of Mount Desert Island. We hike the Precipice Trail and then head to Bar Harbor for pizza and drinks with our friends Thomas and Kristin, who share fresh vegetables with us from their garden.

Interested in more information about our anchor? Curtis wrote a fabulous blog where you can read more about it! Here is the link: https://sweetruca.com/our-anchoring-s...

So just who is “Sailing Sweet Ruca” anyway? We were inspired by the original sailing you tubers like Sailing Delos, Sailing La Vagabonde, Gone with the Wynns, and even some of the newer sailing channels like Sailing Soulianus and Sailing Nahoa among others. We were already racing sailors but we wanted to get out and cruise, with a goal to sail around the world via the capes (the hard way). We are Curtis and Kate, along with our sailing dog Roxy!
