In this video, Dr. T. Chandra Sekhar discusses about thyroid conditions in children. He states that thyroid issues can occur in children. A newborn baby can be affected by thyroid problems, this is known as congenital hypothyroidism. This occurs due to a deficiency of thyroid hormones present at birth. Thyroid issues in children can be prevented through Newborn Screening (NBS), which is mandatory. Through this test, we can determine whether a child has thyroid problems or not. The quicker we recognize thyroid issues in children, the faster we can improve their mental status. If ignored, it can adversely impact the child's mental development and overall health.
