When I grew up still living with my parents, they never bought any octopus from the market.
Until now, I never seen my mother cook an octopus.
So I never tasted octopus until I furthered study to Japan.
The first octopus that I tasted was from Japanese famous street food takoyaki which I bought for the first time in front of the Niigata station in the first month I stayed in Japan.
Octopus is not a common seafood in Malaysia during my childhood, and not commonly use in any popular local cuisine.
Before takoyaki became famous in Malaysia, it is very rare to see street food with octopus ingredients in the market.
Since takoyaki is a bit expensive when you have many children growing up, my husband starts to buy fresh octopus from our local market to cook our own home-made takoyaki which save a lot of money.
Medium size fresh octopus can cost between RM15 to RM20 which came as a surprise since it is not a popular seafood in local household.
Octopus must have a good supply demand to maintain this price range all year round.
After walking around the Api Api Food Night Market during weekend, we can understand and conclude why octopus has a very stable price.
