In this video, I am going to show you how to install a metal wall mount handrail. Specifically our very own modern handrail model. First I am going to show you the tools required for the installation and then I will go step by on how to install it properly. I will also explain the code requirements.

Handrail Residential Building Code Requirements

1. Height- Handrails must be installed 34"-38" inches height above the nosing of the steps. 36" inches is the most common height.

2. Length - The handrail must cover the complete length of the stairs/steps.

Specifically the nose to nose length of the stairs. If you place an order for a handrail make sure to order it 6"-12" longer than the nose to nose length.
MAKE SURE to check that you have enough space on your wall for your handrail to fit properly.

3. Spacing off wall / clearance - A handrail should have a minimum of 1-1/2" inches of space/clearance between the handrail and the wall, for a hand to fit.

4. Returns on the ends - Handrails should terminate into wall on the ends. This rule is applicable to most states in the USA. Reason being is because straight / open ended handrails have higher risk of catching loose clothing and becoming a falling hazard.
