In this episode Daniel and Mick take two original Klon Centaur pedals – one silver and one gold – and A/B them against the latest Klon-alikes.

The Klon Centaur is the most revered overdrive pedal of all time, setting guitar players’ hearts alight as much as it does angry exchanges on gear forums and social networks.
So, WE’LL ISSUE THIS WARNING RIGHT NOW…

If low-to-medium gain overdrive isn’t your thing, and the prospect of sitting through 37 minutes of very, very, very similar-sounding pedals will be boring for you, please turn off now!

For everyone else, grab a beverage of your choosing and get your dog ears on, because this one is waaaaaay close. Our pedals are…

• Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive (Silver) s/n S 2182 (no longer available)
• Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive (Gold) s/n 3099 (no longer available)
• J Rockett Archer http://rockettpedals.com/product/arch...
• J Rockett Archer Ikon http://rockettpedals.com/product/arch...
• Electro-Harmonix Soul Food http://www.ehx.com/products/soul-food
• Wampler Tumnus http://wamplerpedals.com/product/tumnus/
• Rock Your Repaired Amp Klone https://theklonepedal.com/

Why is there no KTR? Because we didn’t get one in time! There are plenty of online demos A/Bing the KTR against the original Klon, so hopefully we can take that as read.

Amps today are a Two-Rock Studio Pro 35 running through a custom Zilla 1x12 with Celestion G12H-75 Creamback, and a Marshall JTM45 that’s been reboxed, into a Marshall 2061CX 2x12 with Celestion GH12H Anniversary speakers. We say in the video that the amps are set ‘clean’, and indeed they are, the but one of the amps is definitely driving harder, or picking up some of the pedals’ drive in a more obvious way. So you’re hearing a mix of a ‘cleaner’ amp, and one that’s ended up a bit more dirty. It gives you a chance to hear the harder-clip edge of the Klon. Er, or that’s our excuse anyway.

Dan is playing a Nik Huber Krautster II and Mick plays a Fender American Vintage ’62 Stratocaster, Collings SoCo and Gibson Custom Les Paul Standard 1958 reissue.

As ever, all pedal switching and signal routing is handled effortlessly by TheGigRig G2.
