Come with us for a walk through Birley Street in Blackpool Town Centre, and find out some of the history of this very old part of town. Correction: the 'bottom bit of Birley Street' is of course West Street! Filmed on Monday 1 February 2021.

We start at Blackpool Central promenade at the corner of Roberts Oyster Rooms, with a short walk along West Street, and past the car park entrance. Then walk along Birley Street, under the arches of Brilliance, to where it meets Abingdon Street at the Co-op supermarket.

Blackpool Town Centre is deserted, as it should be while we're in lockdown for coronavirus. We're out for a couple of hours this week to do our essential work that can't be done from home.

In this walk through video we'll find out just how old this bit of Blackpool town centre is, some of the history of some of the buildings, and just why it's called Birley Street.
