Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Sainik School was established in 1997 as a part of State Government initiative of starting a Sainik School in every district of Maharashtra. The school prepares the cadets academically, mentally and physically for entry into Armed Forces. The school aims to prepare cadets academically, mentally and physically for entry into the officer cadre of the Armed Forces through the National Defence Academy while bringing quality English education within the reach of the common man.

The School has a sprawling new campus of 35 acres at Loni with facilities for the major games. The school has classes from Std. V to XII and has a strength of 492 students. The school can boast of 100% result at the SSC and HSC Board exams. It also conducts regular coaching classes for CET and NDA, written exams and Services Selection Board interviews. The school has facilities for Rifle Shooting, Horse Riding, Swimming, Yoga, Gymnastics and NCC. Hobbies encouraged in the school are gardening, carpentry, dance, painting, etc. In the sports arena, the school has done extremely well and has produced two state champions in boxing, two State level athletes and one National level Cricket batsman. The school has given seven Armed Forces Officers in the Army and Navy and one of its Cadets has been selected for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and is presently undergoing the training.

The school not only brings quality education to the door step of the common man but also serves as a gateway to the NDA and other professional institutions.
