UFC Welterweight Daniel Rodriguez was born on December 31, 1986 and survived the cold and wicked streets of the SGV and was able to literally fight his way out amidst gang affiliations and frequent encounters with the criminal justice system. Lacking a sports background, Rodriguez began boxing and later transitioned to mixed martial arts in his mid-twenties.
Rodriguez started his amateur career in late 2013, compiling an impressive 7–0 record in the Welterweight division by 2015. He then transitioned to professional MMA, initially competing in Combate Americas and making a one-off appearance at Bellator 170. With an 8–1 professional record, he appeared on Dana White's Contender Series 22 but did not secure a UFC contract despite a unanimous decision victory over Rico Farrington. He subsequently won the Smash Global Welterweight Championship before earning a UFC contract.
On February 15, 2020, Rodriguez made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 167, stepping in as a late replacement for Ramazan Emeev to fight Tim Means. He won via submission in the second round and received the Performance of the Night award.
D-Rod is 17-5-0 in quite arguably the toughest division in the league. He is raising his Family and continuing to perfect his craft by training every day. He found sport as a way out the hood and is living his best life.
