TEDxMSVU speaker Simon d'Entremont busts myths on ageism in his talk, “Shifting the conversation about an aging population”. In his talk, Simon counters what we have come to think about aging against what the evidence tells us, busting some commonly held myths about health, engagement, and independence that contribute to ageism. He introduces Nova Scotia’s SHIFT: Action Plan for an Aging Population which aims to address the gap between what we think and what we know and more broadly to lead a shift away from thinking about aging as a problem to be managed to that of an opportunity that we all can benefit from. Simon d’Entremont has held the portfolio of Nova Scotia’s Deputy Minister of Seniors since 2015, a department committed to ensuring the inclusion, well-being and independence of seniors in the province of Nova Scotia by facilitating the development of policies and programs for seniors across government. Prior to this appointment, he worked in the federal government holding several regional portfolios related to health, communications and economic development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
