Nissan Navara D23 4WD System Code P1819

The D23 has a part-time 4WD system with three drive modes which are 2WD, 4H and 4LO. Some of the higher specification utes may be fitted with a Rear Differential Locking System. This system is only designed to be used when the vehicle is stuck, and once engaged, will lock the rear differential to allow the vehicle to gain some traction.
MotorTech’s Technical Advisory Service commonly receives calls for information on diagnostic codes relating to the 4WD system on these vehicles. However, these codes might be leading you astray. One common diagnostic code is P1819 - Shift Actuator Circuit.
As with other 4WD systems, is it advised to encourage the owners of these vehicles to engage 4WD every couple of weeks to ensure that the switches and actuators don’t seize up, so the 4WD system will engage when they need it.
