The Hacksaw Ridge cast Announced As GQ Ensemble Of The Year at the Australian award ceremony in Sydney.

Well regarded by critics and successful at the box office, Hacksaw Ridge was beaten only to the top of the theatre charts by Marvel’s Dr Strange blockbuster. The film marks not only a return to form for Mel Gibson but shines a light on an ensemble cast of talented Australian actors.

To date the WWII epic has grossed $42 million worldwide. It follows the true story of Pfc. Desmond T. Doss, who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds.

This tale of war may be framed by America – though this was very much an Australian production. Shot on location in and around Sydney, it marked Mel Gibson’s return to form – while elevating local talents such as Ben Mingay, Luke Bracey, Ryan Corr and Firass Dirani, alongside Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn.

Powerful and emotive – Hacksaw Ridge rightly drew a standing ovation for its debut at the Venice Film Festival, and has since gone on to secure critical acclaim.
