Today we will dive into a few different subjects that are loosely tied together by one single thread; Egypt. First, we will examine the earliest photographs of Buenos Aires, which all appear to focus on the Egyptian-Style Obelisk known as The May Pyramid.

It was founded in 1811, yet by the time of the images in the 1840s and 1850s, The Pyramid and much of the surrounding structures look ancient. We will then turn our attention to photographs of Egypt during the 19th century, with a majority being from before 1880 and highlighting the Sphinx. Finally, we will focus specifically on Alexandria, Egypt, and the Ancient Port, which was once home to the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Recent and ongoing underwater excavations have revealed a vast city once surrounded The Lighthouse, and many believe this was The Lost City of Cleopatra. We will examine all the photographic evidence while also entertaining theories regarding these most mysterious creations.
