'Two Out of Three Ain't Bad' is a power ballad performed by the American musician Meat Loaf. It spent 23 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 11. It remains Meat loaf second-highest-charting hit in the US, behind 'I'd Do Anything for Love' released in 1993.
The song is a track off 1977 album Bat Out of Hell, the biggest selling debut album of all time with 22 millions certified copies and 43 millions claimed.
The inspiration for the song was interesting: Jim Steinman, the songwriter, was told that his work was too complicated and that he should write something simpler. At that very moment, an old Elvis song, 'I Want You, I Need You, I Love You', was playing on the radio.
Steinman then promised he'd try to create something as straightforward, but the best he could come up with was a twist: "I want you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you. Don't be sad,' cause two out of three ain't bad".
