Til ungdommen (To the Youth) - N.Grieg/Mortensen/Sommerro - Defrost Youth Choir

Recorded at the Norwegian Choir Championships Grand Prix Saturday 9. October 2021 at the Olavshallen concert hall in Trondheim.

Nordahl Grieg wrote the poem in 1936. Otto Mortensen put a tune to it in 1952. Henning Sommero made this exceptional arrangement* in 1988. After the 22. July 2011 terror attacks Til ungdommen became a hymn to the fallen.

Til ungdommen was not on our ordinary championship competition programmes the day before. We had rehearsed it as our eight piece for an eventual Grand Prix; To sing Til ungdommen for an audience of 1400 and defrost their hearts was what we wanted to do most in Trondheim.

*The arrangement is for soprano solo and SSATTBB. We do however sing the soprano solo massed; from the youth to the youth.
