Siddheshwari Mandir - Magnificent ‘Nine Jewel or Nava Ratna’ temple on Chitpur Road, a wonderful architectural gem in the heart of Kolkata, that was put up by Govindaram Mitra. A dreadful cyclone that occurred on the night of 30th September, 1737 in Calcutta almost ruined the building. . It housed the deity of Shiva. Later, Goddess Kali was worshipped here and today it is known as the famous Siddheshwari Kali Temple of Chitpur. The Black Pagoda is a Navaratna or nine-turreted Kali temple situated on Rabindra Sarani (Chitpore Road) just north of Kumartuli. Built in 1730-31, the highest turret of the temple originally rose to the height of about 165 feet, higher than the Shahid Minar (157 feet). It was the highest building in Calcutta in the 18th century.
