In this video, you'll learn the secret to quickly removing a stuck lightbulb without shredding your hands or endangering loved ones. Nailing this feat with nothing more than a hammer, a paper bag, and a root vegetable, your self-esteem will hit peak velocity. Just remember to turn off power to the fixture before you start.

00:20 After cutting the power to the fixture, remove the globe or other covering from the fixture
00:41 Place a paper bag over the bulb
01:19 Whack the light bulb with a hammer (through the paper bag)
01:30 If the bulb didn't break, repeat
01:58 Remove the bag slowly, being careful to keep all of the shards inside the bag
02:18 Now push one half of a potato onto the jagged remains of the bulb
02:36 Twist the potato counterclockwise to remove the base of the bulb from the socket
03:01 Install a fresh lightbulb, greasing the threads with vaseline if you don't want to have to do the potato trick next time
03:22 Replace the globe or other fixture coverings. TIP: a yellow bulb doesn't attract insects to your porch
