Here's some useful information related to getting your used car dealership license! I started flipping cars right out of Highschool & eventually got my dealers license (because California requires you to after selling 3 cars in a single year).

There is a lot that goes into getting a license, it's mainly all explained in the motorsports market course (linked above). It took me about 7 months from start to finish to get my license. The trickiest part for me was getting around the "Conditional Use Permit" fees (over $10,000 in my county). Also finding an office location that allows you to be a retail dealer can take some time! Make sure to call the city zoning department before you sign any lease!!

I've had a fun experience being a car dealer! Bough some fun cars & made a decent cash doing it. It can be very time consuming and labor intensive. Especially if you're fixing the cars yourself!

Wholesale dealers need can operate out of their garage (as long as it's on the ground floor & has a door leading directly to the street). You also need a 10k bond which cost me $500 at the time. You can only sell to other dealers as a wholesaler, not to the public (AT ALL)

Retail dealers make more money (at least in my experience)! You can sell to whoever you want, this will also allow you to partner up with financing companies so people can get loans for the cars they're purchasing from you. you do have to get your car smogged before you can sell them to the public (keep that in mind because you will need to fix anything you find wrong).

Also, at almost every car auction the cars usually have hidden problems! Whether someone cleared the codes, or something is not working. So make sure to check each car before buying it.

If you do become a dealer, please don't become a snake. LOTS of snakes in this industry along with grumpy people. Keep it classy yo.

Also make sure to team up with someone who owns a car repair shop
