The paramount chief-elect, Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, has vowed never to go to court as a means of resolving conflicts between the two warring cultural leaderships of Lango.

The Won-nyaci elect addressed a special council meeting held to implement one of the two pieces of advice from President Museveni to end the leadership conflict in Lango.

In his submission to the council, the Won-nyaci elect vowed not to seek the court's indulgence in solving conflicts in the chiefdom. According to him, cultural disputes must be handled culturally by elders, not in court. Bite: Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, paramount chief-elect.

President Museveni recently asked the two leadership factions of Lango—the Lango Cultural Institution under Eng. Moses Odongo Okune, the Won-nyaci elect, and the Lango Cultural Foundation under Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii, the sitting Won-nyaci—to try to resolve the conflicts between them.

However, after listening to both sides, he advised the two groups to either reconcile on their own or seek redress from the court. Bite: Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, paramount chief-elect.

The Lango Cultural Foundation speaker, Willy Omodo-Omodo, informed their subjects about invitations sent to the leadership of the other factions to attend the Friday meeting and how they declined. Bite: Willy Omodo-Omodo, speaker, Lango Cultural Institution.

According to him, nothing is taking them to court because their leader, Eng. Odongo Okune, is legally recognized by the government as it is in the gazette. Ambience:

Other clan leaders advocated for peace and reconciliation, saying Lango must unite for development to come. Pops:

There has been a sharp division among cultural leaders in Lango over leadership disputes. A section of clan leaders boycotted the March 1st election in which Dr. Eng. Moses Odongo Okune was elected to replace the retiring Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii. The group is organizing another election in November contrary to the decision of the majority of clan leaders. Ends-
