Inside Trump’s Latest Move: What Is Donald Trump's New Department Of Government Efficiency?

Donald Trump has named Billionaire Elon Musk and former Republican President candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead Trump's New Department Of Government Efficiency AKA 'DOGE'. But what is this new department and how will it help the new Trump administration let's have a look. The Department of Government Efficiency, despite the name, is not a government agency. According to Trump, DOGE will work from outside the government to offer the White House 'advice and guidance'. It will also partner with the Office of Management and Budget to 'drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government that has never been seen before." The acronym 'DOGE' is a nod to Elon Musk's favorite cryptocurrency, dogecoin. As of now DOGE may fall under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which regulates how external groups advising the government should function and ensures public accountability. Typically, federal employees must disclose assets to avoid conflicts of interest and may need to divest certain holdings. However, since both Musk and Ramaswamy would not be official federal employees, they may not be bound by these requirements. After the announcement, Musk stated, "This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste—which includes a lot of people!" Notably, before the election, Musk had pledged to help Trump cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. Meanwhile, in a tweet, Vivek Ramaswamy echoed this determination, stating, "We will not go gently, @elonmusk." Both leaders have signaled their serious intentions. However, what specific reforms they will pursue, and how fully the Trump administration will implement them, remains to be seen.
