Premature rupture of memberanes is rupture of amniotic membrane before the woman goes into labor.

When the rupture of membranes occurs before 37 weeks , it is called the preterm premature rupture of membranes.

When the rupture of membranes lasts more than 18 hours , then there are increasd chances of infection like amnionitis .
