This lemon painting tutorial is broken down into 6 straightforward steps. Video clips feature speed art.

Colors required are: titanium white, cadmium lemon, permanent rose, burnt sienna and pthalo blue.

As can b seen in the video, the lemon has a 'light half and a 'dark half.' The light half is painted first. This first step consists mostly of lemon yellow, white and a little burnt sienna for rich yellows. The paint was painted on briskly.

The second step involved painting in the reflected light on the dark half of the lemon. This consisted of a slightly greenish hue, of cadmium lemon, a little burnt sienna and pthalo blue.

The third step involved knitting the 2 areas together via a shadow band that required the introduction of permanent rose into the greenish color.

Step four involved the blocking in of the background, a mostly bluish hue to contrast with the warm colors of the lemon.

Step five required the neatening off of rough edges with a fine sable, adding definition to the lemon.

And step six wrapped things up with dabs of pointillism to suggest the lemon's texture.
