Power of Mentorship: Youth Motivation and Character Development (HoopNHolla Basketball Rochester)

The Power of Mentorship in action as demonstrated at Hoop N’ Holla, a Youth Basketball Mentorship Program located in Rochester, New York.

Hoop N’Holla is the creation and passion of Coach and Mentor Mitch Harris of Wilson Magnet High School along with his former student and mentee Coach Lyonel Anderson, and it is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program. Through the utilization of the principles of sport, participants can see effort, fair play, and teamwork in a visual way that helps them connect these ideals to their own lives. The program inspires its participants to positive action, teamwork, healthy habits, confidence and shows them the power of their ability to direct their lives in a healthy and positive way. Lessons include not only basketball and physical fitness drills, but also mathematics, goal setting, nutrition, public speaking and media content creation.

Did you know that 75% of CEO’s credit their success to having a mentor? Did you also know that 90% of those who are mentored go on to mentor? The statistics are alarmingly positive, and a signal that mentorship should be at the forefront of all youth development programs.

Hoop N’ Holla is committed to working with Rochester’s youth to develop all aspects of positive character development. From basketball skills to life skills, we want to mentor our kids to succeed in school and lead in life. We’re preparing for our next season of mentorship for our kids, your kids, Rochester’s kids. We could use your help!

The program runs on heart, volunteered time and financial donations in the summers in the City of Rochester, New York and is completely free to the youth. It meets every day during the week and uses the fundamentals of basketball as its background to teach its youth to succeed in school and win in life.
