What is Welcome to Fae Cafe about? RELEASE DAY video.

What a wild year it’s been putting this cozy fantasy rom com book together! If you’ve been following along on the journey, you know how hilariously this all came together (I’ll give you the whole story below). I’ve been describing Welcome to Fae Café as a blend between The Cruel Prince and the TV Show New Girl. An everyday girl trying to exist with a bunch of new strong-personality roommates, while also dealing with cruel fairy tricks and a few weekend deathmatches. And it all takes place in a cozy café, with fae!

 

What are early reviewers saying?

My favourite comparison a reader has made so far is this one:

“Think ACOMAF (ACOTAR) without the spice, meets New Girl, meets Friends (the TV show) meets freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.” Imagine a group of deadly fae assassins sitting around Central Perk from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and the conversations they would have! And yes… there are plenty of cookies, lol. I loved this review so much that I sort of want to frame it.

Another reviewer felt major K-drama vibes for the romance, and I love K-dramas so that made me happy. The romance in this book is slow burn, adorable, and sweet/clean (not spicy/no smut.) Cute and intensely cozy.

What’s the deal with Welcome to Fae Café?

Here is something you may not know about this book: Last year, I did a “What If?” post on my socials where I asked readers “Wouldn’t it be funny if fae were forced to try to blend into regular human society, had to try to order complex drinks from the Starbucks menu, and had to come to a human book club to read popular fae fantasy books without getting into alpha male fights over what they’re reading?” This one post sparked a massive conversation where hundreds of readers were asking me to write this book. It was so fun that I then did posts asking readers what sorts of human everyday nonsense they’d like to see the fae have to try and learn/encounter, and I got hundreds more comments from people pitching ideas from “riding escalators” to “driving without road rage” to “doing taxes.” It was the most fun I’ve had as an author to date. This book was such a joy to write and I loved that so many book lovers jumped aboard and got to be a part of the process. I made this book super tropey. Readers wanted to see all the best tropes, such as “enemies to lovers” to “he falls first” to “found family.” This book is PACKED with all of that greatness and plenty of other shenanigans and nonsense. Now you know the story of how this book came into existence. I loved having readers be a part of the writing process and I'll definitely do it again!
