In the two hundred and thirty eighth episode Lady Colin Campbell discusses the truth behind the BBC TV hit series, A Very British Scandal, which dramatised the disintegration of the marriage and the divorce of her father-in-law Ian Campbell, the 11th Duke of Argyll, and his third wife, the much-celebrated heiress-beauty Margaret, Duchess of Argyll; how the BBC's inattention to detail and contempt for the truth and accuracy resulted in a sloppy, downmarket version of what could easily have been a truly upmarket product; how their characterisation of the duchess failed miserably to achieve the heights of style, taste, discernment and chic for which she was known internationally; how the duke destroyed her reputation and turned her from one of the greatest style icons of the twentieth century into a reviled notoriety; reveals his motivation, which was entirely financial; discusses his drink and drug problems as well as his propensity for exercising his fists upon his wives; how the BBC traduced Margaret unfairly, portraying her as the instigator of the conspiracy to strip his two sons of legitimacy when in fact the duke himself was the architect of the whole scheme; how the duke believed that one of his sons' natural father was the last Tsar's nephew Prince Dimitri of Russia; how the BBC got both the substance and the details of the most notorious divorce in 20th century Britain wrong; how they could easily have got to the truth, had they wished to do so; what the truth actually was; how the duke hoped to get his hands on his father-in-law's vast fortune, firstly via his duchess and, when that failed, tried to do so through his father-in-law's wife; how he married a woman he called The Bet and used to joke about her paternity; and why Lady C found the whole series personally distressing and a wasted opportunity to redeem the reputation of a beloved stepmother-in-law who was destroyed by the Machiavellian financial schemes of her greedy, sociopathic father-in-law.
