A PZL-104 Wilga arrives into the New Garden Flying Field to take part in the static display for the 2022 airshow. The Wilga is a Polish short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) civil aviation utility aircraft designed and originally manufactured by PZL Warszawa-Okęcie, and later by European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), who had acquired the original manufacturer during 2001.

First flown on 24 April 1962 and entering service during the following year, the Wilga has evolved through many ever-improving versions during its continuous production from 1962 to 2006. The type was largely used by civil operators; those military air services that did fly the type typically used it as a trainer and liaison aircraft.

The New Garden Airshow is typically held over a weekend either in June or August, but has not taken place since the 2019 event for a variety of reasons. The 2020 event was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the 2021 event, with every intent on happening on a weekend in August, was unable to take place all thanks to President Joe Biden and his absolute desire to return to his Wilmington, Delaware home almost every weekend. Each time Biden goes to Wilmington, all airports within 10 nautical miles of the Biden residence must shut down completely for the duration of Biden's stay in Wilmington, and tragically the New Garden Flying Field lies within that 10 NM ring and has lost a significant amount of revenue as a result of this.

A traditional weekend airshow cannot be successfully accomplished with Biden as President due to the location of his home and the New Garden Flying Field, and the only way to have an airshow and guarantee that he will not be home is to have it on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. The 2022 event was scheduled for Tuesday August 30 with a rain date of the 31st, and severe weather that was forecasted and did pass by forced the date change. As you watch the videos you will see the parking lot behind the runway where most of the general public is parked; this lot is typically full on a Saturday show and to see this lot full for a Wednesday evening brings tears of joy not only to myself but to everyone involved in the show and the New Garden Flying Field. If New Garden has an airshow in 2023 and 2024 it may once again be a one-day show held on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

The International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) has negotiated a 2022 rate of $217 per public air show day from BMI; a rate of $264 per day from ASCAP; and $136 for a one to two-day air show weekend, $197 for three to four days, and $259 for five to seven days from SESAC. These rates are not controlled or negotiated by the USAF or any other entity and are subject to change. This rate applies only to music broadcast over the public address system during the air show portion of the program and does not provide the show with the right to use prerecorded music at concerts or other non-air show special events held in conjunction with the air show.
