Hey house lovers and explorers! Today we look at one the very first buildings to be demolished in Glandore, Adelaide including many many old homes to make way for a portion of the huge River Torrens to Darlington tunnel project currently underway.
This site in this video consists of 2 Churches and an commercial office section. The old original church on the left was built in 1913 and the distinctive mid century modern designed Church on the right was built in 1964. In 2009 The site was sold and converted to accommodation use for the Australian Worker`s Placement and then as a halfway house/hostel type facility until it was acquired by the government to be demolished.
Squatters and former boarders were still making use of it`s vacancy after the acquisition as you will see.
My focus around this area was to try and document as many of the old homes a possible for posterity which I was luckily able to. I have added a brief history to these churches and intend doing a follow up video with a more extensive back story as the more I looked the more I found including long gone residents who are link to the old homes of the area.
This is the second time in 17 years Glandore has take a hit to it`s Western edge of South road as many homes were lost to an underpass in 2007.
hope you all enjoy, cheers for watching. :-)
