IMPRISONMENT AND FLIGHT
«R U Happy» & «Je Vous Aime » is a pair of videos made up of two titles from the new album. They evoke mental disorders, more specifically obsessive-compulsive disorder. Drawing on their own personal experience, Rami and Aymeric explain how they eventually succeeded in understanding one another, and in creating and producing Aufgang’s music.
Isolated from each other because of the global pandemic, between Sydney and Paris, their creative process has been tested like never before, not as much by distance as by isolation and the mental burden that results from it.
CHOREOGRAPHY
The staging takes its cues from dance. In the first film, the duo of Chris and Saido evolves in an frantic and imposing choreography that becomes lighter and finds resolution in the second film, with the aerial dance troupe les Passagers.
ECHOING THE PANDEMIC AND ITS CONSEQUENCES
Recorded before the global pandemic and filmed just before and during the first lockdown, the two films resonate with current events: The isolation that we must endure has repercussions on our mental health. This is expressed in «R U Happy»: solitude, craziness, the suppression of freedom, breakdowns, sickness, depression ... The song is dense, difficult, and unsettling...
In contrast, «Je Vous Aime» is light and optimistic, and focuses on acceptance, friendship, love, support, and the resilience that one person can bring to another. The possibility of a better future? A utopia? No matter what the answer, the film culminates in a choreography that defies gravity...
This video “diptych” was born from a close collaboration with François Rousseau. He succeeded in transcending the ideas of AUFGANG through a work of sincere beauty, at once pure and brutal.
