Nizamate of Hyderabad comes to an end, as Mukarram Jah, 8th Nizam of Hyderabad passes

Mukarram Jah, the titular Nizam VIII of Hyderabad, passed away at his residence in Istanbul in Turkey on Saturday night. He was 89. With the passing away of Mukarram Jah, the Nizamate, though informal, of Hyderabad comes to an end. His body will be brought to Hyderabad from Turkey on January 17 and he will be laid to rest at the ancestral graves of Asaf Jahis in the historic Mecca Masjid near Charminar. The family of Mukarram Jah said the funeral details will be announced in due course. They, however, said the body will be kept at the Chowmahalla Palace near Charminar for the public to pay their last respects. He last visited Hyderabad more than a decade ago. Mukarram Jah had the best of education — Doon, Harrow, Cambridge, and London School of Economics.
