WOODEN CABLE REEL IDEAS! AWESOME WOODEN VIKING SHIELD!

Hi! This is a video about making a wooden viking shield out of a 1000 mm cable reel. This idea came a long time ago when i was breaking some old wooden cable reels for firewood. At some point i was stearing at one of the cable reel wheel and i have this idea of transfom it in to a beautiful viking shield. I hope you like it.

Materials:
-wooden cable reel,sanding paper, wood primer,wrought iron elements, wood glue, pencil, baking paper, indigo paper, white and blue paint, leather, decorative pins.
Tools:
-sanding machine, hammer, pliers, small knifes , hand clamps, silicone gun,painting brushes.

Step 1:
We use one cable reel wheel for the wooden base of the shield and then we remove any unwanted nails with a plier, we sand the wheel very well and apply a wood primer. At the end of this process we start repairing the wooden reel adding pieces of wood and wood glue.
Step 2:
We chose the shield design, we start drawing the viking symbols and we manually paint the shield for a nice and authentic look.
Step 3:
Here is the part where we have to mount the wrought iron elements so that we'll obtain that nice looking spikes effect. After that, we start preparing the leather that will surround the edges of the shield and fix it with some decorative nails.
Step 4:
We finish all the work adding a nice hand engraved shield boss as seen in the link bellow:
