Описание к видео A "Taste" of the Lockhart Basin Road from the South - Bears Ears National Monument

Visitors come to Lockhart Basin Road for a challenging long distance off-road drive over Moab’s famous slickrock. Along the way you’ll be treated to views of Kane Creek Canyon, Island in the Sky Mesa and Deadhorse Point.
• 57 miles (typically 11 hours)
• Difficult, with lots of challenging terrain.
• North Trailhead: Lockhart Basin Road located off Kane Creek Road.
• South Trailhead: Lockhart Basin Road located off Utah Highway 211

Overview:
This challenging drive winds through scenic Kane Creek Canyon and includes sweeping vistas of red-rock country. You’ll have vistas of the White Rim and Deadhorse Point, Island in the Sky Mesa, as well as ancient petroglyphs in Canyonlands National Park. For those of you who would like a less challenging route you can start Lockhart Basin Road from the South entrance off Highway 211. There is relatively easy access to camping in the area for the first few miles of the road. After that the road becomes more challenging with a rating of 3-4 on a scale of 10.

North Trailhead:
Find the trailhead off Kane Creek Road. Take the Chicken Corners Route for approximately 21.4 miles from Kane Creek’s junction with Main Street, then turn left onto Lockhart Basin Road.

South Trailhead (The route we took):
Take Highway 191 South out of Moab until you reach Highway 211 and turn right (West) and travel to Lockhart Basin Road. Turn right (North) on Lockhart Basin Road.

Details:
• Distance: Approximately 57 miles

• Average Time of Drive: From the North 11 hours. From the South it varies on how far North you travel and if you want to avoid the difficult Northern section then the trail becomes an “Out and Back”.

• Difficulty: Difficult. Highly rutted, steep, and sometimes treacherous conditions if heading South from the Northern trailhead. It is easier going North from the Southern trailhead but gets more difficult approximately 9-10 miles in.

• Trail Type: "Point to point" from the North. From the South it can be an "Out and back" if you decide to skip the difficult section or "Point to Point" if you choose to do the entire route.

Plan & Prepare:
• This drive is best attempted in spring and fall.

• Take Note: Heavy rains can make sections of this trail impassable. Make sure to check current conditions before setting out on your trip. Also beware as flash floods can impact the narrow canyon.

• 4 wheeling is an inherently dangerous activity and shouldn’t be attempted without the appropriate training and equipment. Following a few basic tips can help keep you safe:
• Understand your vehicles 4 wheel drive system and know how to use it.
• Make sure you know your cars dimensions and lowest point of clearance – you don’t want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.
• At all times, make sure you travel with at least one passenger and one other vehicle if possible. Take emergency supplies, carry a satellite type of communication device and extra parts.
• Make sure you know your route. Know where you are and know where you are going. In and around Moab, radio towers can serve as useful landmarks.
