Скандинавский бог Хеймдалль согласно старшей эдде называется белым богом, стражем богов и светлейшим из асов. Он является хранителем радужного моста Биврёст. Зачастую его называют сыном Одина, хотя ни в одном оригинальном тексте нет прямых указаний на родственную связь Хеймдалля и владыкой Асгарда. Однако в отдельных эпизодах старшей эдды говорится о том, что белого бога выносили и родили девять сестер. Многие исследователи сходятся во мнении, что это дочери морского великана Эгира и его супруги Ран.

The Scandinavian god Heimdall, according to the Elder Edda, is called the white god, the guardian of the gods and the brightest of the Aesir. He is the guardian of the Bifrost Rainbow Bridge. He is often called the son of Odin, although in no original text there is any direct indication of Heimdall's relationship with the ruler of Asgard. However, in certain episodes of the Elder Edda it is said that the white god was carried to term and given birth to nine sisters. Many researchers agree that these are the daughters of the sea giant Aegir and his wife Ran.
