Eating food before its expiration date is a good way to avoid food poisoning, but what if the date is printed right on your food? That’s the dilemma a consumer recently faced when opening up some frozen wontons bought at the supermarket. Several of the dumplings were marked with ink, right on the dough wrapping.

The text was so clear that you could still make out the Chinese characters on one wonton, while another had some numbers on it, presumably a date. The buyer posted the photos online, asking whether the dumplings were safe to eat. A netizen says that it was simply some extra reassurance that the wontons weren’t expired. The food company has since apologized to the consumer and pledged to step up quality control.
