Gondang & Ceper Sugar Mill Steam Locos

This is film of Gondang Winangoen and Ceper Baru mills near Klaten between Yogyakarta and Solo. Active steam to the field finished by the 2000s so the majority of this footage is pre-digital video 8. I knew Gondang Winangoen as Gondang Baru. The field lines headed south under the national railway line. I never saw the 3ft 6in gauge line from the mill to the national railways in action. The tram loco used for this work once lived behind the grey gates seen at the beginning of the film and I think the 3ft 6in lines left the mill that way. We see this loco at the end of the film preserved under a shelter in the mill museum. At the end, we also see some former Ceper (or Tjeper) locos at Gondang. For that reason, I have included footage of these locos in action at Ceper. I think at the time I visited, their operation was similar to Sragi with yard work only. One of the locos seen in action at Gondang is Rendeng Mill No. 8. which had moved over after Rendeng stopped using steam. It makes a great sight hauling trains at speed and without the need to stop for a ‘blow up’ on what I assume was bagasse fuel.
