71043 Hogwarts Castle is the biggest LEGO Harry Potter set ever and recreates Hogwarts Castle in a level of detail never seen before in any of the previous LEGO Hogwarts sets. Although not badged UCS (Ultimate Collector Series), this definitely fits the description and the 2018 Hogwarts Castle even comes with a display stand for the LEGO minifigures depicting the Hogwarts house founders.
As 2018 LEGO Hogwarts Castle 71043 is a microscale build, we get 27 LEGO Harry Potter microfigues to use inside Hogwarts Castle including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Professor McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Dolores Umbridge, Argus Filch, Voldemort, Bellatrix Lestrange and three generic students from each of the 4 houses. There are also 2 chess pieces, an Architect of Hogwarts statue and 5 Dementors, plus Aragog the acramantula, a Basilisk figures, and buildable Hungarian Horntail.
Outside Hogwarts Castle we have microscale LEGO builds of Hagrid's Hut complete with pumpkin patch, a spinning Whomping Willow with tiny flying Ford Anglia and a flotilla of miniature LEGO boats to ferry first years across Hogwarts great lake towards the boathouse and a detailed LEGO great hall.
Hogwarts Castle 71043 is perched on rocky foundations faithful to the Harry Potter movies and is recreated in epic, if not complete detail. The quality of this 2018 LEGO Hogwarts build is superb with detailed architectural elements and some really nice features including stained glass windows, the viaduct (albeit rather truncated) and Dementors floating above the roof.
The interiors of the LEGO Hogwarts Castle 2018 version are interprative and not canoncially accurate. For example, The Chamber of Secrets is beneath The Great Hall where the kitchens should be teeming with House Elves preparing a feast. Hogwarts is also heavily dependent on stickering for many internal features and it gives the interior of Hogwarts Castle a somewhat cartoony, childish feel, even though there are many nice references to delight Harry Potter fans.
There's so much detail, I probably didn't cover everything in this LEGO Harry Potter unboxing, speed build and review video but it is truly an epic set and I appreciated features such as Dolores Umbridge's gaudy pink office and the rooms that lead to The Chamber of Secrets including Devil's Snare, Flying Keys, Wizarding Chess, the locked door with snakes and The Chamber of Secrets itself which recycles the snake element previously used for Voldermort's Nagini.
In this video I unbox 71043 Hogwarts Castle, examining the packaging then speed build the 6,020 piece set accelerating the 10 hour build to a three minute speed build before completing a detailed review of the 2018 Hogwarts Castle, the micro builds, microfigures and the minifigures of the four Hogwarts founders.
