Описание к видео Top 3 Beginner Knots | Quick | Strong | Simple.

Learn the differences between three essential knots: the Double Overhand Knot on a Bight, the Double Fisherman’s-Style Overhand, and the Double Overhand Stopper Knot. This video shows what each knot looks like, how it’s tied, and what it’s used for. Perfect for beginners, outdoor enthusiasts, climbers, and anyone looking to improve their knot-tying skills.

1️⃣ Double overhand knot on a bight.
A double overhand knot on a bight is mainly used as a stopper knot or a thickening knot—not as a primary load-bearing loop. Here are its common uses:

✅ Typical Uses

1. Stopper knot on a rope end
It creates a bulky knot that prevents the rope from slipping through a hole, pulley, belay device, or other equipment.

2. Temporary loop (non-critical)
You can use it to form a loop, but it’s generally not recommended for climbing or life-safety loads because it is:

hard to untie after tension

not as strong or reliable as a figure-8 loop or bowline

3. Increasing friction
The knot’s bulk helps when you need extra friction or a secure grip point on the rope.

4. Backup knot
Sometimes it's tied as a backup to other knots because of its simplicity and bulk.

⚠️ Important Note

This knot is not typically used for:

climbing harness tie-ins

load-bearing anchor loops

rescue or safety situations

Better knots for secure loops include:

Figure 8 on a bight

Bowline on a bight

Double bowline

Alpine butterfly loop

2️⃣ Double overhand stopper knots

✅ What this knot is used for
1. To create friction on another rope

When you tie a double overhand around a second rope, it grips tightly.
This can be used for:

Holding something temporarily in place

Marking a position on a rope

Keeping a rope from sliding through a ring or pulley (non-critical situations)

2. As a simple stopper around an object

If you don’t want the rope to pull through or move past a point, adding a double overhand around another rope or object makes a bulky friction knot.

3. As part of forming other knots

A double overhand around a rope is one half of a double fisherman’s bend.
But in your picture, the two knots are not interlocked, so this is not being used to join ropes—just two individual stopper/friction knots.

4. For training or demonstration

People often tie these when learning how gripping and stopper knots behave under load.

⚠️ What it is NOT used for

Not a load-bearing climbing knot

Not meant for joining ropes unless interlocked

Not a secure hitch
It tightens extremely hard and can be difficult to untie.

3️⃣ Double overhand stopper knot

✅ It stops the rope from slipping through something.

Because it is bulkier and more secure than a single overhand, it’s used anywhere you need a strong stopper at the end of a rope.

📌 Typical Uses
1. Stopper at the end of a rope

Prevents the rope from pulling through:

holes

pulleys

rings

belay/rappel devices (non-critical)

other knots

2. Backup / safety knot

Often tied as a backup behind:

a bowline

a climbing knot

a hitch

It adds bulk and friction so the main knot is less likely to work loose.

3. To create friction or a handle

The bulky knot can act as:

a hand stop

a marker

a grip point on the rope

4. Component of other knots

A double overhand forms half of the double fisherman’s bend or grapevine knot (used to join ropes).

⚠️ Not typically used for

life-safety loop knots

load-bearing attachment points

situations where the knot must be easy to untie
(double overhands jam extremely tight)
