The highest mountain peak in the world is Mount Everest, which stands at 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet) above sea level. Located in the Himalayas, on the border between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, Everest has long held the title for highest altitude on Earth.

Mount Chimborazo
Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is notable for a different reason. Though its elevation is 6,263 meters (20,548 feet) above sea level, Chimborazo sits close to the Earth's equator, where the planet bulges outward due to its rotation. When measured from the center of the Earth, Chimborazo’s peak is the farthest point from the Earth's core, technically making it the highest point on Earth by this metric.

Mount Mauna Kea
Mount Mauna Kea in Hawaii also has a unique status. From its base on the ocean floor to its peak above sea level, Mauna Kea measures about 10,203 meters (33,474 feet) in total, making it taller than Everest when considering its full height. However, only 4,207 meters (13,803 feet) of Mauna Kea are above sea level, so it's not considered the world's tallest mountain in traditional measurements.

These distinctions show that "highest" and "tallest" can mean different things, depending on how they’re measured!
