If you have installed STAR-CCM+ correctly and configured the licenses properly, when you launch the software you should see a screen similar to the one shown here. As you can see, there is no data or information displayed yet. To create our first example, we have several options.

We can either click on the New option located in the upper-left area, or go to the main toolbar, select File, and then click on New. Here, to create our first file, I will click directly on the option with the plus sign next to it. Once I click on it, a new window opens.

In this window, the software asks for the type of file we want to create. Since we are going to run a simulation, we select Simulation as the file type. We are not going to use any template, so we leave that field empty.

For meshing and solving, the mode we select is Serial, which means the computation will be performed on a single CPU node. Finally, the software asks for the simulation license. If everything is configured correctly and you click OK, STAR-CCM+ will automatically create your first simulation file, typically named star1.
