"Huaylarsh," from Huancayo, Peru in the Central Andes, celebrates the land, the planting and the harvesting of potatoes. The dance plays out as a courtship ritual between men and women and is filled with fancy and energetic footwork by the male dancers. The music, style and costume of the Old Huaylarsh (Huaylarsh Antigua) were changed in the 1950s by the Huanca musician and composer, Zenobio Dagha to form what is now popularly known as Modern Huaylarsh (Huaylarsh Moderno).
