Unraveling the Shift to B-29's Firebombing Japan

Описание к видео Unraveling the Shift to B-29's Firebombing Japan

B-29 bombers initially operated out of China striking Japanese targets. This deployment was unfeasible due to logistics, bomber range and bombing inaccuracy. Later the B-29s were deployed from the Marianas islands to bomb Japan’s aircraft industry by adopting methods as were adopted in Europe. This included high altitude, daylight formation precision bombing using high explosive bombs. This approach did not work, bombing accuracy was abysmal, bomber attrition was high and engine issues were plagued the program. General LeMay implemented new bombing policies that had a dramatic beneficial effect to bombing of Japan. The video will explore these changes.
