Yellow After the Rain was published in 1971 by Mitchell Peters, an American composer born in 1935. Many of his pedagogical works, now played as percussion standards, have become concert favourites. The opening is homophonic with a light melody singing out over chords. This then moves to a roll section with a more relaxed tempo and a secondary semiquaver motif is developed. The complex B section requires precise control of all four mallets as the semiquavers move around the instrument. Finally, the opening melody is restated twice, the second time harmonised with block chords
